That's because the warmup music's part of the BIOS, not the game. Check "Bubble System BIOS (bubsys.zip, parent nemesis.zip)".

Is Gladiator playable in M1? I know it's not in Bridge or Fox and I know it has a lot of repetitive music in it (hardly worth having playable for that reason alone ), but I'm wanting to get a few of the sound effects and some of the bonus/victory tunes from it too. Just recording while it's playing in mame ain't cutting it. ('cause of music overlapping :annoyed: ) edit: I've heard that the M1 guy accepts polite requests over on the official board ;-) Pretty Please? ...I mean, it'd sure be nice if Gladiator was playable in M1. Can ya help me out? :bemused:

A quick clarification: Bridge and Fox are frontends - both of them, along with the commandline interface, rely on the M1 engine (m1.dll) to do the actual work. So it'd be pretty odd if one supported games the other didn't ;-)
I can look at Gladiator. I believe it's not one of the standard Taito sound systems, but it still shouldn't be too bad.

Well, I had one version of FoxM1 and it played music from Black-Tiger but the version of BridgeM1 that I had at the time didn't. I guess I didn't pay attention to the (core?) versions numbers. :bemused: ...the main/sub CPU communications are extremely baroque (there's an MCU sitting in the middle enforcing a protocol) so it may be a while. Good luck.

Hey there. I came here for a request as well, so I thought I might as well use that thread. First of all, congratulations and many thanks to the creators of M1. It has not cease to be a source of enjoyment eversince I first tried it, and I don't think it will end soon. =) Now, to the point. I've an avid VGM collector, and could recently listen to some music from Vasara and Vasara 2 on a shooting game compilation album, and loved it. Sadly, I noticed these games aren't supported yet by M1. I have no idea of how much effort it requires, but if it's not too much, I'd love to see them supported in the next release. *With hope and thanking you guys again*

Vasara 1/2 have no separate sound CPU, so it's essentially not m1-able.

SSV doesn't have a separate sound CPU, unfortunately. The driver program did seem fairly well separated from the rest of the game, but it's still not an easy job.

Ack, I see. Well it seems the only solution I'll have will be to play/record the games, then. Unless you feel like spending time on that.
Thanks for the fast replies. =)

Attention, another request coming.... I would love to see the 5 pinball machines from Capcom (1995/1996) added to M1, especially Big Bang Bar and Kingpin. Will that be difficult ? Thanks Arbee !

Vasara's a single-CPU game which is typically problematic for M1. I'm expecting those games to be more of a focus when UF gets the new MAME 0.137-based M1 running.

Hi,
I am curious if those Dance Dance Revolution arcade musics can be played in M1/ will be supported in M1? I am particularly looking for the korean version of the DDR 3rd Mix...
Thanks for answering.

Unfortunately the DDR 3rd Mix and later (the "573 Digital" board) use music compressed/encrypted in an unknown way. Soundtrack CDs for DDR games are generally easy to track down though.

Soundtrack CDs for DDR games are generally easy to track down though. And will likely be higher-quality rips than whatever compression Konami used in the games themselves.

True... However, the Korean songs are the only songs not included in the Original Soundtrack (I own all the series OST) and is arcade exclusive. Hence I am trying to see if there is a way to get the music off from the arcade data instead... :P

The digital board involves 2 large FPGAs and an MPEG decoder with reprogrammable microcode that can be made to read anything. So we're assuming it's some sort of encrypted or otherwise bitstream-incompatible MPEG-1 audio thing.

Are these FPGAs and MPEG decoder ASIC targets for decapping? Or are there other ways to figure things out? Have there ever been any bootlegs/hacks for DDR digital? (or are the bootlegs all either DDR analog or DDR digital with custom sound boards)
Although I would imagine that proper emulation of these latter DDR games might invite the wrath of Konami :P

The games download a large binary blob at boot. We're not clear if that's FPGA microcode, MPEG decoder microcode, or both, but clearly there's very little ROM involved so decapping probably wouldn't be necessary.

Have there ever been any bootlegs/hacks for DDR digital? Oh man, people have hacked the crap out of DDR digital machines. ...They've just added new game modes and stuff, not new songs.

Is there some way to get MAME to dump out this binary blob when you run the game?

Ehh, you're right. Doesn't look like Sony's ADPCM in any way. Could it be this format?

what about yamaha adpcm, AKA 'delta-T' aka 'smif-audio'? (same audio format ym2608/2610 and y8530 use) That's a weird oddball one which just came up a few days ago on the list...

There's a fricking MPEG decoder chip on the board. I'm pretty sure Konami wouldn't have gone to that expense for any kind of ADPCM. Also, unlike the Jaleco music games, Konami actually did care about audio quality.
smf and I are not gibbering morons. If it was any kind of half-standard ADPCM we would have recognized it.
