Hi,
I've already completed a search of the sdlmame forums trying to find a solution however it appears that all solutions are for people with non-us keyboards.

My keyboard won't work correctly with SDLmame.
Description: tab brings up menu, can use down arrow but no button to select any options, no other button really works. I can insert coins with '5' but that's about it.

I've checked the mame.ini file and it has keymap set to '0'
My keyboard is a USB Microsoft "wired keyboard 600"
OS is Ubuntu (latest v)
My Keyboard settings are United States

I don't know what the problem is, from what I can gather I don't (or shouldn't) need a keymap specified?

Any help greatly appreciated.

JR

soooo, no one here can help? awesome.

I've tried to create my own keymap file in a lame attempt to work around this prob and get cracking on some paperboy but and still no luck. I am using (as stated in my first post) a US QWERTY keyboard.

Starting point would be great - failing that..... sheesh

Sorry. Ubuntu are legendary at fucking up their operating system in ways that hurt MAME, but that's a new one on me. Try wiping out all cfg and ini files and see if that restores proper operation.

SDLMame has a utility called testkeys. Just type ./testkeys in your mame folder. A small window should appear. Place the cursor on the window and start typing. Note any key you type and the output from "testkeys". Post the result here.
